I’ve been back for a while, and I’m working on some new content for the blog.
I’ve been doing a lot of looking back, and I’ve realized that my entire life the committee of they told me to work hard so I could land my dream job. My business mentors and coaches continuously remind me to work hard so I can achieve my dream. Big difference.
What I am really trying to get at is this. It does not matter how much of a dream job or anything like that you land, the reality is that you stability and longevity in that position has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with the owners, managers, and in some cases even the stock holders. This topic recently came back up because a good friend of mine was recently cut from her company. She is one of the smartest, most talented and effective managers I have ever known, and in my opinion she was instrumental in turning that company around, but regardless she was not a good fit for the owners, and she had to go.
One of the things that I have learned is that in each company there’s only room for one dream, and if you don’t own it, it’s certainly not yours.
